I'm saying the alt national parks service acct made up their number as a joke. Notice how specific it is, while other estimates that actually tried to count have wide ranges, like the OP estimate of 4-6 mil? That's a more accurate count that a data analyst came up with

It's true that the article doesn't say that. But here's Wikipedia: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_protests_and_demonstrations_in_the_United_States_by_size. Neither George Floyd, which involves people repeatedly going out over months, nor Earth Day, which involved teaching people in their regular classes, really counts as a larger protest

One can reasonably debate what is a protest (one day vs. multi-day) and how to count people in multi-day protests [e.g. I protested apartheid for 45 days; do I get counted 45 times?]

Earth Day definitely doesn't belong on this list, though; 20 million people attended schools where they were taught
