If your work and personal life both largely revolve around sitting at a computer, you are at risk of developing knee cartilage issues if the shock absorbing muscles in your thighs atrophy too much. Ask your PCP for some stretching exercises, I think even just doing them every other day can help.

In my experience getting on even a simple regular stretching regimen will freeze the damage from getting any worse & regular stretching + some sort of regularly scheduled leg exercise (half an hour of lazy biking twice a week is enough for me) even alleviates some of the symptoms
