These firefighters are amazing, man. They are helping my friend’s cul-de-sac prepare for the worst right now. Cutting vegetation, putting outdoor furniture into garage, duct taping vents, etc. They do so much more than we know to protect us.

I’d wondered how they prepare areas! What is the duct tape for?
I mean, I assume it inhibits airflow, but I can’t visualize how that prevents fire..? If fires that close, wouldn’t the eaves (roof) be aflame? (If you know?)
They wrapped William Hjortsberg's entire (small) cabin in foil years ago during a huge fire, the cabin where the sole manuscript of his giant Brautigan biography was stranded, and saved both.
He took the whole crew to a Very nice dinner!

Not just thoughts and prayers, because I live far away. Donated $$ to Red Cross and palisades humane society. People should put their $$ where they put their prayers/thoughts. 💜💜💜
During the hermits peak fire they saved my friends house. They’d already cut down the trees to make a defensible space. They were a crew from California I believe♥️ it’s heartbreaking
Every single person criticizing anyone in the LAFD and firefighters in the trenches should be forced out of their basements/off their drugs and onto the front lines
During the Thomas fire (Santa Barbara County), they (a visiting strike crew from Santa Maria) cleaned out my pool filter. I wept. It was and still is, just too much.
My brother is a retired FF. At 80 years old he still runs to help neighbors. He keeps the scanner on and has gone to the station to help man the station house when there is a major incident! There was a photo of him running out of a burning house with a child under each arm.
This is what America has become, They have somebody running shit that looks like a bum wearing two shirts to keep his funk inside. His face looks like a person that doesn’t shower for weeks but yet he has power (say)I guess crime pays and even more in the next administration.
They are world hero’s from 3 countries doing amazing things to save OUR PEOPLE, while Elon and that orange sack of shit in a blow doll up costume eat soup at a budget hotel for rich people in Florida
The State of California has some really well-run departments and offices. They plan for disasters and weather, and keep help locally sourced, trained & managed. So much better done than in FL where I lived for decades.
(It sounds dumb but anyone with a pool can put metal lawn furniture in there, and dishes/ceramics/stuff that can handle chlorine and water. Unless they need the pool for pumping water, of course.)
With all respect, unless you’re senior or disabled, most of these “chores” should be the responsibility of the homeowner to protect themselves and their neighbors. Hope the rebuilding process includes hardline rules for construction and landscaping. No need for 60 foot palms that become torches!
I had the FD come out for a gas leak once. It was a new 2-unit condo. The chief was confused about the setup. He whipped out this book that had the floorplan of every single house the station covered. I had no idea.
In the Arizona white mountains, firefighters camped out on our property in tents for days while they prep the area for the oncoming fire that would’ve otherwise wiped out a $4 million property. They wouldn’t stay inside. While there they fixed the well and other stuff too.
