I saw this on Reddit. Worth reading the subreddit for tips on how to modify Google search terms to reduce the presentation of sponsored material. If I can find it again, I will post details.
Yep, it's been like that for years. Even without the fake information, it has become INCREDIBLY HARD to find information about what you're looking for. You have to word things 100 different ways until finding the right combination, it's become a nightmare. Reason why I always ask people first now.
It can of course be argued that these results are exactly what you should get when doing such a vague search, though. Not sure there's a way for any search engine to filter out lies and rumors...
I've been using DDG for years, and unfortunately, I must say AI slop is getting there too. It's not a search engine issue, it's a world wide web issue.
I don't know about the English version of Gemini, but in French it often hallucinates while misinterpreting sources. I had a pleasant experience with Perplexity, I haven't seen any hallucinations coming from this model so far, plus I kinda love how it gets to the point without babbling.
It pulls results from bing's crawler and its own crawler and it's feed on DDG's own front end + they're not owned by MS, not sure where copilot can get involved here
I use the "turn off AI" method, but it's only a matter of time before they kill that loophole. Even then, the results are worthless because they're all paid ads.
I had a girl tell me she had watched all 3 Kill Bill Movies, 2 I corrected her, no 3 she said before googling for 5 seconds showing me a fake IMDB page, I said it's fake read the description, It was AI Barf page.
She is alright just a bit confused. She said she and her dad went through all Tarantino's films.
Me: Even Jackie Brown?
Her: maybe not all of them, but most, including all 3 Kill Bill.
Also, depending on what you're searching, images are without AI if you restrict your timeframe to pre 2020. Of course if you need a recent image this will not work.

Alternatively, stop using Google for images.

The fact she insisted the movie exists, or that she watched it.

I'm always willing to dunk on Google, but maybe this is misplaced. Unless you're suggesting it flag/filter this crap.
