Good question. From what I gather about the Brain, memories are stored in a variety of places. When you remember your last vacation, tactile, vision, and emotional memories are stored in different places. It’s just fantasy to imagine scientists could do what is depicted.
There was a case where a man was accidentally rendered unable to form new long term memory. Every morning he would wake up shocked at his age. That was a permanent condition not nearly as complex.
I bet they also don't forget to rebind that shortcut on their tablet continuously for years, instead of just fixing it once. Living the dream out there.
