I think a big part of this is how moralizing and high-handed so many Leftists are. Talking to leftists, even when one might agree with them is often an experience full of being shamed, corrected and treated like a simpleton. Why on Earth would most people want to spend time with Leftists like that?

Hey there buddy, slow your roll. I don't want to ally with any bigots. I'm trans, I'm partially disabled, I'm pretty much on everyone's chopping block. However we need to remember that some people really do have more developed senses of propriety than morality. We gotta live in the world as it is.

Fun story, I've checked out multiple local organizations and one of them couldn't even take the time to gender me right when welcoming me, and outright said that Trans struggles weren't revolutionary. It sure seems like the problem isn't with my reading!

Thank you, but surely you can see that local orgs can very easily have a problem with optics and how they treat people. I never went to a second meeting, and honestly I would look sideways at them if they found my info. If they had gendered me correctly I would have gone back. I wanted to be there!

Replace left with right or centre and I see this all the time there too.
Idiots exist independent of view. Filter them out and listen only to the calm ones that are willing to ask questions rather than bark orders.

I’m certainly guilty of moralizing and being high-handed but I always come from a place of educating and talking directly to intelligent grown adults capable of great empathy and change. If I’ve learned to do better, so can others, no? Why is “being corrected” infantilizing?

Because a lot of people aren't as self-assured and confident as you are. Being wrong is vilified in our society from childhood. Being willing to be wrong, in public, is an act of profound vulnerability. Lots of people just aren't capable of that without their hand being held.

But I have to say, I’m getting *real tired* of “oh no, the left are so rude to me when I say the wrong thing” while the people in charge are now working to *arrest and deport people* based on what we say in our social media feeds. In a vacuum maybe not, but it sure seems like the stakes might be high enough that it's not worth throwing out any of the tools in the box. "I wasn't being too harsh" isn't a balm to the people suffering detainment based on race, gender or belief. It feels good to be right, but it doesn't help folks

But I’m not speaking to the people in detainment, I’m speaking to the people who still think we need to be “reasonable" with the ones detaining them, to “moderate” liberals of the world who think that DEI is oppressive and BLM has “gone too far.” We’ve been working to win those people over forever 🫤

I'm a center left who aligns with the NDP for the most part. I have voted for every damn party at least once, but, I will never vote for ANY conservative anymore. After the UCP in Alberta here, and PP...nope, no thanks lol. I'll take the NDP working with the libs.
