This. Conservatives think liberals (and leftists) hate them, and they're right. So they become insular and closed off, and eventually you wind up with hateful, populist movements that coalesce in the dark corners of the political sphere, because folks were abandoned.

Really is the same thinking as “Fuck everyone in red states they got what they wanted” instead of actually addressing the poverty and abandonment that funnels them to a party that lies to them more effectively.

My partner is not a conservative and works in the agriculture industry. Keeps mouth shut at work and in the field.
The perception/ reality of hate goes both ways.
Most people all over the world and Canada want pretty much the same basic health and opportunities for their families. Those are places to help start conversations. Leadership pushing division does not help.
For those who haven't, it's UofManitoba Psych studies over decades into mindsets of both big buckets anti & pro authoritarian & what can shift them back & forth, altho it does focus more on pro plus the sub groups. Free online.
But we are never going to stop making hate movements without treating their root causes. Can't do that with your back turned.
No idea if I’m a good guy. And I’ll never accept that I am b/c that may mean I stop trying. And the trying is the making.
Every continuing hero story goes on arcs, learns lessons, grows. Accepts and mends personal flaws.
I think the best measure is what you want for others.
In a nutshell, white men feel they have lost power because of those things, and they want it back, plain and simple. .../2
The truth is that it is the *greed of rich white men* that is responsible for the poor working conditions and poverty, but they're being told it's wokeness, and they believe it, because men wouldn't lie to men, would they?
Because to see that truth would mean losing the only hope they have of achieving the dream they've fed off of all their lives.
To do that, you have to listen to what they think, feel, and believe.
Maybe the morons who say they're just financially conservative get a bit of a break but, honestly, that's just a lie at this point too. They know what they vote for.
