It’s nice to see other countries learning from our mistakes and taking steps to prevent their own version of Trump. Democracy is fragile—protecting it means recognizing the warning signs before it’s too late.

I live in Melbourne (Australia) & I’m so scared our next election will go the same way as the US. Theres so many red flags & attacks on women’s rights here already. Murdoch owns the majority of our media. Trump has made people bold & I’ve seen people being racist & transphobic that I never expected.
I’m in Melbs too, scared also.
Dutton is self-styling as Trump here & the QLD electorate do live a bit of racism & hate.
Murdoch media is everywhere & hope thin on the ground.
Argh.
Agreed. QLD are full of old boomers and NSW is a religious hotbed. Labour aren’t any better than the coalition and Dutton has been taking notes from trump with the same money backing him. 😭😭
I can’t even tell what the major parties are campaigning for at this stage. Labour haven’t moved on climate change, genocide, the # of women being unalived, making big business accountable, or rental reform. NDIS has been eviscerated & public housing has reduced under them. 😭😭
As a QLDer, fuck you for your generalisation. Last federal election we added 2 extra Green seats (which I hope they hold and add to). Stop the stupid bullshit and properly attack those that are the issue: Murdoch, LNP, Dutton, etc.
I should have made it clearer that my comment is only based on my own experience. I’ve never met a Queenslander who supports socialist politics. It’s a conservative state as shown by the state election result which you can’t argue with.
You could argue that, or you could pause.
I suspect taking a moment to understand that we’re fighting for the same thing might be useful.
I agree with your stated politics in your profile. *And* there is a perception of QLD as a far right bastion, even if generalising might offend on occasion.
Wow straight to the “fuck you” so fast? Usually they buy me a drink first…
It’s a vast generalisation, yes. However having as a state elected a government that’s erasing women’s bodily autonomy it’s hard not to generalise re: QLD
Sorry to not speak to your *exact* individual experience.
Just don't generalise, target those that are causing the issue. Yes, the LNP is fucked, but they do not speak for all Qlders. They won the last election after many years of ALP rule.
First day on the internet?
It’s a generalisation machine, especially in short text-based formats.
This is like coming into a discussion of male violence with a “not all men” comment. It detracts & distracts from the main point, which dilutes the original problem being discussed.
I want to be hopeful for other countries to fight back, I truly do. U.S. thought they were too making progress to prevent fascism, dictators and oligarchs, but half (more for those that didn’t vote) seem to be totally fine with it. Not learning history and being comfortable in bubble of conveniences
I'm so confused about Israel and the US being evil besties despite Elon's lil' salute and the clear warning signs of a fascist regime similar to the Nazi party of 1933...
This has been such a tricky landscape to navigate. We have had quite a bit of unrest because of Palestinians vs Israel. Some will see this as supporting Israel, even though (I believe) it is good to legislate against nazism and terrorism. I hope Labour manage to stay in for another 4 years though.

We need politicians with vision for decades into the future like we used to have - not ones that just think of election terms and personal gain
