They will also have to deal with a very unfavourable regional and international environment. Turkey, Iran, Gulf countries, Israel... No one is really interested in a democratic Syria.
Europe will have to push in support. But do we still have the leadership for that?

The only lever that could lead to support is, unfortunately, that of migration. If the new power in Damascus allows Turkey and Europeans to send home the Syrians they no longer want, they will accept it.

The other major incentive will be its ability to fight ISIS, which has taken advantage of the collapse of the regime to reclaim pockets in the East.
