Pretty sure this review of the Child Death Investigation guidance was commissioned under the previous Conservative government, so they may have given directions as to which areas they wanted more from.
Then again, it's increasingly hard to spot the difference with the current government in some ways

Whilst the NPCC does include Police Scotland the author quotes the Offences Against the Person Act 1861 which does not apply in Scotland. Section 78 of the Act explicitly states that it "does not extend to Scotland".

The NPCC told The Observer that unexpected pregnancy loss was not “routinely investigated” as a potential illegal abortion and that “any investigation of this nature will always be treated with the utmost sensitivity and compassion”.

So probably not one for the police then.

Parliament will debate this petition on 2 June 2025.

The updated Practice Advice on Child Death Investigation from NPCC now has 9 pages of stuff about investigating the private life of women where incidents of unattended stillbirth with concerns relating to termination of pregnancy are reported to the police.
