honestly i think side projects are kind of useless for juniors
they have no way of evaluating if they’re doing it the “right” way, using a realistic stack etc.
and interviewers mostly ignore them because they assume they’re kinda fake
better to contribute to an oss project if they can imo

OSS can 100% fast track technical skills but can also pigeonhole folks via either a bad case of NIH or associating one too closely with a specific technology.
Either can be good, depends on the person I think!
