On this day, 45 years ago, my dad got the family an Apple ][+ computer, starting a dreamy, nerdy summer of gaming and Applesoft BASIC coding, setting me on a path to being a gamedev. Thanks Dad!

My dad, a restaurant worker, couldn’t afford one.
But, we had these in our high school.
Exposure to them, learning to code in Basic, led me to advanced degrees in computing and math.
The importance of available technology in schools is even more vital today.
I have an Apple IIGS I saved from my mom’s elementary school. We bought the property and all the computers were still there! I sold most of them but kept the IIGS. Some day it’s going to a new home too. I’m keeping the CRT monitors though
