But it gave him enough gray areas ie Presidential vetoes, pardons, special wartime powers, etc.
As a non American I've always found it ironic re: freedom from a tyrant king yet giving the president virtual king like status and power ( in certain situations).
whoopsie!
It kinda does though when SCOTUS says that guy in the picture is above the law. SCOTUS opined against the Constitution once, ruled against the Constitution twice, has removed rights from people that the Constitution enshrined for fifty years. Remember that this wouldn’t be happening but for SCOTUS.
It’s pretty revealing that at least the foot soldiers know they’re doing wrong. Besides the shame, they’re very likely afraid of prosecution in the future & of vigilantes now.
Exactly. The Dems are too busy pointing fingers re: the Biden debacle to mount any sort of push back. Not that they'd need to do much given how incompetent this regime has been to date
Inside Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill”: Judicial Silencing (Sec. 80121(h)).
“No court shall have jurisdiction to review any action taken by the Secretary, the EPA Administrator, a State or municipal agency, or any other Federal agency […] to issue a lease, permit, biological opinion, or other
approval."
What it means:
- If the government approves drilling, mining, or development, even illegally, you can’t sue.
- It applies retroactively, killing lawsuits already in progress.
- Tribes, environmental groups, citizens, even states, lose the right to challenge these approvals in court.
This guts judicial review, a cornerstone of U.S. democracy. Courts are the only check on executive overreach. This section erases that check for some of the most destructive decisions the government can make.
Bingo. It is an imperfect document ( nothing's perfect) so eventually some narcissist like Trump would exploit the loopholes. Your founding Fathers couldn't have imagined the crash syncopathy we see today
Nonsense. Lord North's cabinet, nicknamed "The King's Friends", was ridiculed in Britain and the colonies alike for being FAR more deferential to George III than the established doctrine of Parliamentary Supremacy required. MAGA is quite a bit like the politicians they rebelled against.
I think they would have handled it better. I think he would be out. He would have been out on J6th. If corpses really rolled in their graves they would certainly be doing it. But I think they expected something like this. They'd be disappointed in how we're handling it.
But since he controls the Executive Branch which includes the DOJ, the military, etc., it also gives him 100% power to blow off the courts. That's the biggest flaw in the Constitution, right up there with the electoral college.
Again..checks and balances that made sense 200 + yrs ago don't today.
Here's hoping the American public has the courage to make amendments post Trump to avoid this current bit of history from repeating.
There are several Republicans who would dearly like to push back but to quote a former CDN prime minister..politics is a whore and there's no whore like an old whore.
Maybe they know if they do, some Maga type replaces them?
I have few answers
The 2nd amendment could use clarification.
Who determines that the "security of a free State" is at risk? Can it be used as a defence for shooting fascists and nazis?
Excellent point. Another major gray area the founding fathers ( or traitors if you're British 😉) didn't consider because they wrote that document as it applied to their time.
Americans, IMO, need to look at amendments sooner vs later.
Good luck given today's polarization.
If the Supreme Court nominees, regardless of who appointed them, care about the constitution..they can. I'd be writing them letters weekly reminding them of that fact. Reminding them they should be above partisan politics.
And I'm not saying abortion rights, etc etc are not important. It's reading the room.
Imo the Dems made the same mistake the provincial equivalent did in Alberta Canada..they assumed that enough voters would easily realize the opposition leader is a nut job therefore...
Because Biden decided to run again. The Dems made the election about abortion rights etc vs the economy and enough of the soft vote fell for his election promises.
The problems facing most democratic nations can't be solved in 1 election cycle. Keep that in mind next time

Guessing your ok with people being deported without due process too. As long as you're not affected right?

Otherwise this is just going to keep happening over and over, more and more.
SHAPE UP OR SHIP OUT !
