I do not think I have ever seen anyone talk about this, but does anyone else find it concerning that Genshin romanticizes alcoholism in characters like Venti and Citlali?

Isn’t Citlali shown to be incredibly depressed which leads her to be an alcoholic? Sure, there are some gags involving her being drunk, but I wouldn’t call that romanticizing.
The problem that I have with it is that it is usually in the context of comedy relief or character endearment. Overall, at least three characters in the game are alcoholics, and it is used more as a gag than anything.
I find it concerning with Citlali because they made it a joke whereas with Venti I think they've done a halfway decent job of having everyone around him more than a bit concerned. The exception seems to be Paimon but they also have never been able to nail a good tone for her dialogue.
Hell, didn't they make an entire story quest for Diona where she tells us how horrible alcohol is and why alcoholism and drunkards aren't exactly the greatest thing ever? Also, it's like 2 characters who drink quite a bit out of nearly 100. Calm down.
Really trying to find something to have an issue with, huh? I don't recall them painting alcoholism as better than it actually is. In fact, doesn't Citlali drink whenever she's depressed or heavily stressed? Aside from a gag here and there, I don't recall them making that a positive thing
Like it's a virtual game. If you're looking for a game that doesn't offend you or hurt your little feelings, then I'm sure that there's kiddie games made for toddlers that you can play
First of all, Genshin is played heavily by adolescents. Secondly, would you be okay if cocaine addiction were depicted the same way in a game like Genshin?
Like, people get drunk when they drink alot. Some people get drunk more than others. These are adult characters drinking virtual alcohol in a virtual game. A game that isn't afraid to lambast alcoholics. So what if we have 3 characters who drink a bit more than others. Grow the fuck up
It is the fact that the game features characters regularly getting drunk all the time as a running gag, rather than as a more serious problem. That is the issue. When heavy chronic drinking is how characters are depicted as being quirky and fun, it undermines the seriousness of the condition.
First of all, even adolescent players are aware that the adult characters drinking and being goofy while drunk isn't the end of the world. Secondly, no, I wouldn't be okay with that. Granted, comparing a drinker being goofy to a druggie is a stretch of an argument to begin with
Plus, even if we have two characters who are carefree when drunk or a little bit goofy when drunk, we also have been told how bad alcoholism is in the Diona Story quest. Plus, mondstat NPC's are seen as a slight annoyance due to their drinking
Yeah, but getting drunk and drinking a bit more than others doesn't count as alcoholism. I drink liquor more than my friends and most of my family, but that doesn't make me an alcoholic
No, I think people can enjoy it with friends while still placing important boundaries to its use. What I take issue with is the romanticization of alcoholism in media -- depicting it as a gag or a character quirk with minimal to no downsides.
In a game where we kill innocent animals in Fontaine for character and weapon ascensions, and said animals don't even attack us unless we attack first, and where we have a character who's clan is full of apparent racists, it's the grown-ups drinking alcohol that gets your panties in a twist
It also bothers me that a few of the characters they depict desiring those drinks appear underage. I understand that they are a lot older than they appear (especially with Venti and Citlali). But it still rubs me the wrong way when characters who are designed to look adolescent partake in alcohol.

Citlali has had more screen time while sober than drunk, and the drinking wasn't the gag, but rather how she acted while drunk.
And bediou is more of a pirate and they are known to be drinkers
