By 1949, Mao Tse-tung's Communist forces won the Chinese civil war and Chiang's Nationalist forces retreated to #Taiwan. So #UNResolution2758 was about who would represent China at the UN — a battle won by the Communists on Oct 25, 1971 — and did not address the sovereignty of #Taiwan in any shape or form. Zhou Enlai, then the Communist PM, noted "the status of Taiwan is not yet decided" even if the resolution passed.
