They aren't pretending it's sustainable. They're (probably rightly) assuming that they'll be able to avoid consequences/the fallout when it all collapses. And tragically, the more resources they hoard now to accelerate the collapse, the better position they'll be in to avoid consequences later.

My dad grew up in Oregon in the 50s and 60s and talked about the poverty then, especially in rural logging communities. And this is the 50s! This is the era they want to “bring back” in their movement, their model. It has only gotten way, way worse as you said. Something’s gotta give.

Having had the misfortune to be in the same room as these ghouls, this is all an abstract to them. It's a reality they'll never face and that they benefit from. And frankly, a lot of them are the most empty-headed dipshits you could ever hope to have a restraining order against.
