In case you're wondering, authoritarians use this strategy of escalation to manufacture crisis, provoke outrage, then use the reaction to justify repression. It’s not about restoring order, it's about creating a spectacle of chaos they can claim only they can control.

Escalating to escalate.
"Roughly 500 Marines based out of the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in California have been mobilized ... and will join the National Guard troops that were activated ... over the weekend without the consent of California’s governor or the city’s mayor."

No mention that it's actually the police being violent, and Trump's reaction is not wanted.

Part of me thinks its bc they believe the Marines will be more vicious, but if anything I think they're more likely to disobey illegal orders to turn on civilians.
(not that I think it would be a good ideas if people started using firearms)
1. MUST remain peaceful
2. No flags but American flags. They are already twisting anything non-American into "anti-American".
More people in more cities will protest, more violence will occur and he won’t stop.

If we’re not careful, in the not too distant future, having the military put down protests will become an accepted norm.
Unfortunately, that outcome seems like a forgone conclusion from what I'm seeing.
Where could he have got that idea from 🤔
Orban, Erdogan and others "illiberals" needed to keep good (decent) reliationship with EU and US.
They need "plausible deniability" on their road to dictatorship.
Trump _IS_ the US, he don't need to hide from the US.
He believe that US don't need the world
And trump play for his life (physically) : if can't stay in power he will die in prison.
The scenario now is not "Orban", probably more a "Pinochet/Franco" scenario.
No escalation : shock,
No hollowing of democracy : abolition
In one week, two, you will know if the US democracy will survive.
He said he would be a dictator ON day one. Suggesting he would be a dictator for a day.
Not the same thing at all. Though we all know what he meant, it’s not exactly what he said.
Giving him the benefit is what he relies on, constantly. It's quite the trick. But he is a conman.
There was evidence, in Trump's first term, of people possibly being flown west to foment unrest in major cities. I don't know if they were militia groups or someone else, but disorder gets blamed on locals even when it isn't.
They gave him almost unchecked power and he will use this power to enrich himself and those around him and when the daft fuckers that voted for him wake up and smell it, it'll be too late.
This is where the US has failed miserably, so now they're so desperate they'll run with anyone who is not "business as usual".
They don't see this turning into facism as they're too focused on "owning the libs".
But it will/has
– Escalation framed as “restoring order”
– Mass arrests under vague pretexts
– Targeting of protest organisers and journalists
– Expansion of emergency powers
– Demonisation of dissent as “terrorism”

I'm not shilling the book, just confirming the source and hoping it'll wake up a few more folks

- the addition of one random, nonsense order on Trump's part that could never have been predicted by a rational being.
Fuck that monster!

🙏🙏🙏 You help make sense of senseless times.
The pictures with the Mexican and Palestinian flags were just a little too on the nose for their propoganda machine.

Yet In between the time, CNN decided they should appease Trump.
– Attempts to bait more unrest to justify harsher crackdowns
This isn’t law enforcement. It’s a power play.
<— true of almost everything that has happened since Trump’s inauguration.

If you're just realizing this, it means you missed or ignored the precedent that allowed it.
Trump didn't get far in PDX or DC in 2020 because he was already unpopular and it made him even more so.
That's the flaw with static authoritarian "game plans" like Elliot's (or, for that matter, President Miller's).
Coalition's presidential candidate just lost the election.
