That is low quality, but to answer your question you can make changes to itineraries and update facts a lot, lot faster with this sort of thing. Maintaining continuity and keeping content up to date is not trivial.

I'm sure it's easier to update this than get a real person to do updates, but it must put lots of people off - what about the genuine, personal touch? (I'm not the target audience for this; a person talking through local travel info wouldn't appeal to me anyway - I'd rather read something.)
The niche this sort of thing *could* fill is when the economics of hiring an actor means that this will either not exist or will exist like this.

Maybe. I'm thinking more about how satnavs developed, though. 20 years ago they were incredibly annoying, clunky and awkard. And I still used one.
Now their better. And still occasionally you get directed to drive over some fucking field. But utility > vibes, sometimes.
