2.) Because of this, unless it is an immediate emergency or you have a financial safety net, do not quit without anything lined up. I REPEAT: DO NOT QUIT WITHOUT ANYTHING LINED UP. This is especially true if you *only* have teaching experience.

3.) Remember that hiring cycles in non-school environments tend to last way longer than those in schools. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t hear back from anyone in 1-2 weeks. That’s fairly common. Some folks don’t even hear back for months, which can also be common.

4.) Also remember that many, many people apply for non-school environment positions especially if they are listed as remote. It is not uncommon for companies to receive 500+ of applicants within the first 24 hours of a job posting, especially if it’s for a popular company.

5.) Speaking of! If you’re looking for remote positions where you don’t have to interact with folks as much as you would in a classroom, with great pay and flexible hours, guess what? Everyone is. These positions are dwindling, too, so if you see one that catches your eye…

…then you need to apply immediately.

6.) If you’re not part of communities for the jobs you’re looking for, the time to join was YESTERDAY. If these companies don’t know you, why would they hire you? Poke around and see what groups you can join/what communities are around.

And last but certainly not least,

7.) Networking is your friend. And I’m not just talking on LinkedIn. You need to actually go outside and meet people in person. Take the time to events and connect with others. Take the time to learn from others.
