The thing is, you can't "not take no for an answer"
When I gave birth the first time, I "didn't take no for an answer"
I told them that amount of pain wasn't normal
They didn't care
They told me I was just oversensitive - for 13 hours
-Turned out the kid was stuck and crushed at each contraction-

Today I was told that I didn’t “fight hard enough” for my medically necessary hysterectomy.
That if it had been as bad “as I claimed”, I wouldn’t have taken no for an answer.
That I prolonged my own suffering by not making it happen.
This is why so many uterus owners don’t speak up. 🧵

I found that out as a teen…
I still encounter it now; even from what comparatively is a great gp, ish (& female). 😖
Not nearly as emergent, but I got incredibly exhausted during labor and couldnt push. They kept trying to make me, until I started crying and shutting down mentally
Like sacrifice is our main raison d’être and if we have (any) issue of any kind, we just need to be reminded that’s what we are and could we be more graceful at it?
-for 13 hours-
So I was blamed
That's it
No one thought "uh maybe there's a problem"
"Oversensitive woman, stop whining! Labour hurts, it's normal"
After 13 h I got a epidural
And here came the "oops" moment
No shit Sherlock
Baby heart rate was failing
Turned out the amniotic fluid had leaked and he had gotten stuck -and had been stuck for *hours*
So I got an emergency c-section
Hours of unbearable pain during which my baby was in lethal danger
"The woman is in so much pain we can't perform the necessary exam" is not a "duh oversensitive" green flag
It's a fucking "we need to check" red flag
I knew no one would listen so I *lied*
I told them I had contractions (at 7 months)
That was deemed worth an exam
I started bleeding in the exam room
The placenta breached live during the ultrasound
In an hospital that was not equipped to rescuscitate premature babies, but hey, he was breathing
If I had played by the rules -he would be dead
And
A baby's life was at stake
If it had been just me, pretty sure I couldn't have found a good enough lie
Listen to women, dammit! We don’t enjoy being poked and prodded; we’re just more used to it than men because we have had to be… 😭
