i really want to keep liking pokemon, but it feels bad to continue to just be served shit and have to pretend it isnt shit. and it's not even that we're "not the crowd anymore or too old," its that its terribly made games with zero love anymore. its a little embarrassing
The gym challenges are TERRIBLE ;v;... the gym leaders are beautifully designed but you spend absolutely no time with them at all, and.. no costumes for your customizable character, just hats and socks and bags and stuff??? 😭
Even the Team star thing, the idea is great, but why put them in these HUGE landscapes filled with absolutely nothing except for a few copy-pasted assets ... the entire game looks like my uni project when I had no idea how to 'dress' an environment to make it look alive
it was their first true open world title that they were forced by Nintendo to turn around in about 3 years time with a team of 200, so I'm sympathetic to the cut corners.
Pokémon has a special place in my heart. And I just feel the mystery and buildup surrounding legendary Pokémon is just completely gone. There is only a vague hint of a story.
There's a massive crater in the map, and you hear not a single trainer talk about it unless you do 'classes'.
The entire story is about you going to school but then theres almost no time spent at school, classes are just you learning basic tutorial stuff. Art class isnt even you making art, biology teaches you about crit mechanics, you dont fight other rivaling students or learn cool lore whatsoever??
Literally all of this. This whole thread is straight facts. The game was honestly so disappointing that I barely got through it once and then had absolutely no desire to play it again. I went back to playing SWSH and other games instead 😂
I feel exactly the same way about this game. I still haven’t finished Scarlet cause I’m so… unmotivated to do anything in it. I don’t like open world games because I have a terrible sense of direction and usually wander if given no solid goals.
The only thing I do like is the characters are interesting and their model details in the cutscenes are beautiful, but… that’s it? The rest of the game is ugly. Plus I have to play for hours before I get to see any of this brief interesting content.
I've never felt so seen by a thread, I honest to goodness gifted my copy of the game to a friend cause between all this the frame drops and bugs it was just too much
its a really weird game. im still chuggin along through it because ive (recently learned) that i do like trying to complete the pokedex, but even that isnt as fun as it was in PLA. PLA has changed my view of Pkmn games entirely.
