Pretty much, yeah. Magic is often used to refer to a more self/individual-orientated aim that addresses the problems of everyday life outside of a direct cause+effect actions. That's the basic form of what magic is on a practical level (without any specific beliefs applied)

I also wouldn't exactly call rituals 'mundane', since they're out of the oddinary and the whole point is to use fantasy to heighten your enotions. Fantasy & high emotions aren't mundane either. Things that heighten emotions are often referred to as 'magical'

Im not saying anyone has to like it or even use it, but there is some nuance to it, and trying to oversimplify it really misses out the important finer details. You can say anything "is basically X or Y", but that's often rather ridiculous and ends up being fairly inaccurate - spreading misinfo

well it’s completely personal
concept wise it’s no different than using mental imagery or writing something down to make it happen
the difference is in how you go about it and whatever works to motivate someone personally

and personally i love fantasy and unicorns and fairies and i know they aren’t real but creating spell jars and drinking moon water is just my way of focusing on something that only i can change and the act of ritual is like writing it down and solidifying it

Those who are just way too strict & obsessive overanalyse everything really miss out on the beauty of engaging with fantasy while still knowing it's fantasy in the back of your head. It's (imo) the perfect middle. You get to enjoy it while still being rational & sceptical

Calling it magic doesn't make me feel special. Calling it magic just hits the finer nuanced points that other words don't quite hit - and its accurate since it uses many ways we use 'magic', including elements of stage magic
