Some animals exploit plant wax. Myrica cerifera (the epithet = “wax-bearing”) has waxy fruits. Wax is calorie-dense, but few animals can digest it. The exception is the Yellow-rumped Warbler (Setophaga coronata), which can digest wax & disperse the seeds. Win-win. #Myricaceae #wax #Botany 🌾🧪🌱
