The surroundings of As Conchas, in Northern Spain, used to be a beautiful reservoir. There are 400 intensive farms in this region, relying on rubber-stamp approvals from local authorities in order to operate. Both national & European law requires the authorities to protect the health and wellbeing of residents, but this isn't taken into account when approving farms.

The land can't absorb all the manure and slurry the animals produce. That means pollution gets into local water supplies and bacteria multiply, emitting foul smells. The air is at times unbreathable, making it unbearable to live there.
