The silly thing is, I swear in all my years I have never had to use that term, barring maybe a school geography test. I have been there a number of times - US and Mexico sides, but I went to a seaside town or went on "the sea". Never once to "The Gulf of Mexico".
Till now.
I'm sure I'm not alone.

Spouse went to grad school in Washington DC. I've been told very firmly that the non-Dulles airport is called DCA or National, and those are the ONLY names it's got.
