In states that offer abortion services, maternal mortality fell by 21% since Dobbs. Maternal mortality rose among states that banned abortion. The difference couldn't be more stark.

Consider this study by the Gender Equity Policy Institute. It shows the drastic increase in maternal mortality after Texas banned abortions in 2021 and compared Texas to California where abortion remains legal and accessible. It also provides national statistics.

This article from the Texas Tribune describes the difficulty of finding accurate maternal mortality data post-Dobbs because states, particularly states with abortion bans (including Texas), refuse to release or even review the data.
