I got in an argument on stack overflow once with Stephen Cleary or Jon Skeet, can't remember which, when they were arguing with some poor kid that they just needed to use a library for some date time function when the question and issue was clearly homework related and a library wasn't the answer

On that same point though I wish more people were bringing awareness to the many sorts of little cooalitions of groups that exist around developing and creating ideas especially in novel circles. Tech youtube sorta does this but not always. Breaks down peoples belief in a tech dichotomy

Gatekeepers like that always become a thing because people respect the clout it gives. The team woukd rather listen to someone who did a thing at Google 10 years ago than the person doing that thing on their project in their org.
