The people I don't like, their reasons for why I dislike them are valid. The people I adore I see real people in. When they sat down to right this they put their entire foot in it. It also refrains from doing That RPG Thing where at the end everyone becomes this cheerleader blob.

Or another JRPG for a long time.
After an earnest to goodness sea of AAA JRPGs where the story feels like an afterthought, or a cheeky byline, it's really hard not to play Metaphor, then look at others and go: "so what's your excuse?"
Either go all out or stick to the simplified "you and your team must embark to punch god", imo.
