My clothes, my hair, my car… Everything smells like smoke. Between being evacuated from the fires and covering the fires, it smells like I’m back in the 80s where restaurants, bars, and even airplanes had smoking sections. #UGH 💨

I’m sorry. I was caught in the first 9/11 building collapse and had to work in the area shortly after. The smell was nightmarish. It was like smelling death. Those fires burned for months. Scent is something that can haunt you (and hurt you). Take care of yourself. 🙏
Lisa there is so much misinformation coming at the general public about CA and the LAFD. Really appreciate your updates but when possible please help us understand what really happened. Certainly no fire department could battle 80 MPH fire winds. Help clear up the propaganda. Best of luck.
Yeah that is an awful feeling because every time during the 4th of July when people light off fireworks the smoke goes into the air and I breathe It and which causes me to have headaches. So I know the feeling. ☹️
My friend lost her house in the Maui fire...and my aunt and uncle lost theirs in the Paradise fire. Most people don't realize how toxic ash is. Everyone wants to go right back to their houses, but it's going to be bad for a long, long time. As a bartender, that smoke in the 80's was no joke
I was in a fire where we lost everything. The clothes we were wearing at the time smelled also. Wash your clothes in vinegar a couple of times. Then with laundry detergent. It works.
You can get a small/portable ozone generator- they also have them for vehicles. Most have timers for auto shutoff. Run for about an hour in hotel room/auto - it will remove the odor. Caution: do not run with humans/pets in the room/area when it is operating and 30 min to an hour after it shuts off.
Hopefully, it won't be too much longer before you can get rid of the smoke smell. But for your neighborhood and all of the others, the smoke smell will linger for quite a while.
I suspect that almost every house in the area is going to need the services of a fire restoration company, even if nothing burned. The smoke will have likely left a film on all the walls and tainted every carpet, rug, and piece of bedding.
My neighbor’s apartment had a substantial fire in an upstairs bedroom. Even the dishes washed ten times still smelled like smoke plus it’s all toxic. They couldn’t save a single item.
And immeasurably worse for your lungs than a smoking section.
In addition to respiratory morbidity, increased exposure to smoke from fires has been correlated with extra-pulmonary health effects, including impacts to the heart, brain and reproductive organs.
I threw all of the clothes that I brought with me when I left my house in LA in the trash because I couldn’t get the smell of smoke out of any of them.
Ugh, I just smelled that in my mind…I quit smoking in 2002, but I still have a few old leather Coach purses that smell of smoke and have loose tobacco in the bottom. I’m so sorry that you are going through such a terrible tragedy. I hope the fires can all be put out quickly.
And now my hotel. Everything I bring inside this room poisons everything else with the smell of smoke. I’ve had a permanent headache since I was evacuated one week ago today. Awful.
It permeates, saturates, lingers. Have been through previously, and so sorry you and all in my former hometown are experiencing this. Please see my note about 😷and *high quality* Air Purifiers for hotel room, office, even car, etc. Be safe and take care, it’s a long haul.❤️
Hope you have a stash of high-quality N95😷 or KN95😷and Highly recommend for hotel room, office, etc a high-quality Air Purifier—I make my own Corsi-Rosenthal boxes with MERV-13 level filters; I’ve also just ordered a True HEPA from Medify—they have a variety of sizes (even for car).
So sorry Lisa, I know it’s gotta be hard. We really appreciate your insight into what’s going on in LA. We all feel horribly sad what is happening in one of America’s greatest cities. Prayers to you and all your neighbors.

4 washes in viniger.
1 bottle per wash.
Plain old cheap white viniger.
Takes it out like never there.
When I read it, I got a 'whiff' of the stench. YUK!
Then I realized you are living in LA! 😢
The terrifying feeling of possibly losing your home.
Then, dealing with all the aftermath of finding your home survived.
Plus…the sorrow and empathy of/for all the others who did lose homes.
Horrifyingly f’d up! 😢
Stay safe.

When a trend was a trend to the end. Back in the 80's again!🎶

Not ionizers etc, which are not good, but either “True HEPA” level filtration, or MERV 13 or higher level filtration.
They also trap viruses, covid, rsv, flu etc.
