Take Kerala: the most developed state in India on nearly every measure: literacy, life expectancy, gender equality.

It also happens to send the most migrants abroad, especially in health & care work.

These aren’t opposing facts. Kerala is developed because it sends migrants, not in spite of it.

So, migrants not only help the host country by doing essential jobs in areas with skills' shortages, they also help the origin countries by improving their economic and social paradigm. There is nothing else, no other international system (not aid, not loans) that assists countries more.

All probably true. But there is the consideration that if these ‘migrants’ possess- as they must- skills which are beneficial to us then we must be depriving their home country of those skills. Unless they come from a place with a surplus of skilled workers.
Is this latter possibility the case?

That assumption is completely false. Taking the example of Kerala, the state has some of the best healthcare in India and it also simultaneously sends hundreds of thousands of doctors and nurses all over the world.

Is that true of all the countries from which we import skills?
I’d be entirely happy if this were/is the situation.
I am absolutely not averse to immigration and there can be no doubt that we have a need for the skills they provide.

Skills aren't a limited resource. What migration does is provide people an incentive to study and gain professional qualification. When some of these people visit home or eventually return, they invest in local healthcare and training to match the standards they've become familiar with.

The UK experienced this while we were in the EU. Freedom of Movement brought immense economic & professional opportunities. The fact we could work anywhere, young people could get jobs, wedding photographers, fitness trainers, ski instructors, small businesses...so many benefits we have now lost.
