I would fully agree with this, but to play devil's advocate, Big Brother randomly decided to increase their prize in season 23 from $500k to $750k! So I do think there's potentially hope that one day Survivor might follow suit.

Yeah, I think they did that to try to get some attention and also because I believe — if my memory is right, they also changed the overall prize structure so, for example, 3rd place didn’t get the same as first juror.

But also, they didn’t go up to a million. Clearly they didn’t think they had to.

True. My thought at the time was that they may have started having trouble getting some people they wanted to recruit because there wasn't enough incentive with $500k for 3.5 month commitment. Survivor doesn't recruit to the same level anymore, so that likely isn't an issue for them.

Very true. As it happened, I was listening to Rob’s Patron Q&A as I was reading these posts and he was discussing the same topic! His basic point was a lot of people would play Survivor for free. They are mostly fans. So there’s no need to up the prize.

It’s true. Especially when traitors and big brother are so much less but still such big viewerships.

It’s almost as if you only need a big prize to draw in a new audience. If you’re established people will keep coming.

Traitors doesn’t have a big prize in ANY English-speaking country & drew new audiences. Sometimes that may be true, but a good show should draw viewers anyway. Like I don’t care what The Summit’s prize is, it was a terrible show. 1/2
