My wife and I take a cab to & from the airport: no waiting. The bus is tempting (for arrival; on departure, we're usually leaving very early), but that would mean almost two hours, rather than twenty minutes.

Yeah, the cab for arrival is actually a much better option for less waiting. You do get the ease of paying in the app w/ ride share. If I'm only going to be gone for two or three days, I'll even park at the airport, but I'm not dealing with a bus and their schedule and my luggage. Hard pass.
The airport bus frequency is a joke unfortunately. Combined with the mandatory transfer for most people it's never worth it (considering it's stuck in traffic like cars anyway, and you're already paying a lot for the flight)
I'm not scared but always stressed, mostly because I'm at their mercy and you never know how they might screw up your trip. Like running a 10k at an 8 minute mile through the Madrid airport last September to catch my connection b/c my first flight was randomly delayed.
My wife and I ran through JFK in November 2023, arrived at our gate, no one left there, door locked, but walkway still attached to plane. I opened the emergency door; alarms went off, and, with many apologies and much insistence, we got to take our seats.

just 52 minutes from door to terminal for the 6 new families living at the corner of McGavock and Oxford
I can't advise this method, though.
Somebody eventually got it legit though. I was getting ready to try it but thankfully I never had to
