I tend to yell at myself: "MORE!" (I'm an underwriter.) The problem is I sometimes don't remember what I meant by the time I go back. Same with unspecific highlights. 😂

I've got this sort of tag system going on between Past and Future Wendy that my Kindle knows because the predictive text pops up my usual. Some are: Clunky: Typically too many phrases. Prep Hell: Too many prepositions. Telling: Describing shallow actions. Passive: Character is narrating their life.

There are others that Future Wendy will understand that are one or two words. I sometimes use "more here" but usually add in: "more description here" or "more emotion here" unless there's a clear path. Also, I bury snippy smartass comments to myself to make revisions and proofing less miserable.

Oh! A few others that pop up a lot.
Modifying: the subject being modified is vague.
Attribution: Obvs
Unclear: No idea what the character is saying.
Vague: No idea what the narrative is saying.
Seriously? No idea what Wendy is doing.

But Past Wendy and Future Wendy have worked out a system after 15 years and too much staring at notes in my Kindle and wondering what they meant. I couldn't ever use it with anyone else, but I can use it with myself. Like I can highlight "smirk" and know my characters have gotten way too smirky.

I don't use Kindle for proofing, so I have no idea how my process would compare, but yeah... I'm impressed.
