Even without Trump, America is still too wrapped up in monster trucks, cage fighting, misogyny and racism to bother with 21st century issues.
Unlike us, China has been setting its sights on the future and is well on its way to becoming the preeminent global power.
Our flaw is that we tend to view Asia through a 19th-century lens.
When China is mentioned, many of us think of rickshaws and bamboo hats. But China is very much IN the 21st century, and so, too, is India, yet we picture THEM in turbans and robes.
