One of my secondary thoughts after Trump was reelected was that in his second term, the United States would be having it’s 250th birthday, the World Cup, and the Olympics, and that there was no person less worthy to be President and representing us on the world stage for these events
Yep! These assholes are going even ruin this for us! Huge anniversary for all Americans, but not very joyful for most of us right now! Thanks magats and any people that voted for this bullshit! Fuck all of you!
Some truly outstanding reporting here. We knew the parade was a fascist display, but now we know that, like everything else this regime does, it's also a grift.
I'm grateful every day that we still have independent media outlets to report the stuff that legacy media is afraid to report.
Thank you for detailing all this - have been wanting to know how they morphed what was to be a celebration for all into maga masturbation and strongman idiocy.
It's so interesting, I know the bicentennial was a huge deal from my parents, so sometimes in the last five years I realized this was coming, and wondered if it could be as big in our current age.
In the last two years I realized it could end up happening under Trump. 1/2
I'm impressed with the reporting on the connections involving the same people in the crypto and bribery corruptions schemes. While MAGA says they want power, I think they want it because of the money.
How is this parade going to play out? Israel attacks Iran overshadows the parade internationally, the battle between trump and Gov. Newsom and Mayor Bass takes the national attention away. All the No Kings protest marchers throughout the nation are louder than the military band (is there a band?)
You know, when I was a kid I was so excited for when it would come because I was sad that I was born a little too late to enjoy the bicentennial festivities. Now it's almost here and I just have a massive feeling of existential dread. I've no desire to celebrate this country at all.
I know. I remember the Bicentennial celebrations fondly and looked forward to 250. Now because of trump, I’ll stay home in embarrassment and shame in 2026.
It’s not a party. It never should have been. It should be a day of reflection of all the lives lost by our ancestors to create a new and fragile form of government. If our children just see a party every year they have no idea about sacrifice needed to secure liberty for all year after year…
they're too busy complaining about how persecuted (jesus-free) christian pale-skinned euro/british isles descendants are, whining about not having a capital "w" White heritage pride parade/ too lazy to do it th'selves, ignoring festivals celebrating ex norwegian, appalachian, italian, irish heritage
At least you have folks in your life that listen. Yesterday, my one friend who knows names like "Bondi & Noem" called w/husband to wish me happy birthday.
Her: "Happy Birthday! What are you doing?"
Me: "Watching DHS assault a U.S. senator".
Her hubby: "She doesn't want to talk about politics".
I grew up in L.A. Beach Boys performed @ my HS sr prom ('cuz they were alums) at the Cocoanut Grove Club in the Ambassador Hotel near exactly a yr after RFK's assassination there. I stomped every sq. mile of L.A. county freeways. Worked in DTLA's historic Bradbury Bldg. This pisses me off to no end.
Such a shame and a waste of living through a cool milestone that it has to be with this dreadful, leaking shart of a president making it all about him and his cult of sycophants

(Amazing reporting by the way. At least we're here to document Der Untergang of our era.)

You had your chance to self-promote and you lost it
