I got a titer done and was still immune for measles and rubella, but my mumps immunity had waned! It was going to be a PITA to find mumps vax alone so I just got an MMR shot.
In these cases check in detail as guidance will vary depending on the case - for example, our daughter had to wait two years post bone marrow transplant to get MMR, while some other live vaccines are permanently deprecated for her.
Was going to say the same. My wife did it first (I didn’t know this was even a possibility) and had low immunity and got a booster. I had high immunity (probably from my vaccinations in the USAF) and didn’t.
Although insurance coverage for the titer test would be a barrier.
Not sure, as I did it with a bunch of other labs that were partly covered by my shitty insurance. Like $100 total out of pocket but most of that is surely for other labs.
MMR vax does have some potential for side effects, and I wanted to avoid that risk if not needed. Mom also told me that I had measles as a kid, and I’m not sure how that affects immunity.
My wife and I both born in the late 60’s has a voluntary screening for measles immunity. She still had some, I didn’t. So I got a booster (2 doses a few weeks apart) two months ago.
I got my titers checked and was thrilled to see I was still immune (MMR in 1980s). I double checked with my kids' pediatrician they are up to date on all vaccines and got my daughter the HPV one early before it gets banned too. Ridiculous this is happening to us now.
Fyi, if you are uninsured or your insurance covers neither. Both rounds of the MMR vaccine run about $120 at the high end. The test is $142 without insurance from Quest, similar pricing at other lab companies.
Save you the research time if you're uninsured and wondering what route to go.
they just gave me a measles booster when my wife was pregnant and then they gave me another one when my
wife was pregnant again in another state because the records are state based for some reason, it’s a stupid requirement if the insurance demands it, how expensive can a measles shot even be
I wonder if you know if you had gotten 2 MMR shots when you were a kid--like the one when you were a baby and then a second one somewhere between 6-12 y.o? I read that people who received both do not lose immunity, and would be curious to know if that is true. Thanks.
I had both MMRs on schedule in the 70s. In 2016 my employer required a full titer panel at on-boarding. No immunity to measles (and varicella). Did both MMRs again. Immunity can wane.

For instance, in my area it's allowed in some cases for pediatric liver transplants after a certain time period.
The measles went from one shot to two in 1990, and the increased benefit of a second shot for those people is negligible.
