Oh boy, I've been waiting for one of my fav YouTubers to do a SS retrospective and this was exactly what I wished.
While I've got tons to say about SS, but if to pick 1 - the death of Nakoruru in SS2 brought a huge backlash that it impacted the whole series storyline.

Watching after a long shift at work and going down memory lane.

My mom became really sick one year. She became enamored with Warrior's Rage (PS1) and every weekend we'd play for a few hours.

The game is not great by any means. But the memories still bring me happiness.

I'm looking forward to having time to watch it! Samurai Shodown looked so cool to me in 1993, though I only got to play it once or twice on a NeoGeo cabinet back in the day. I didn't get into the series until 2017 after Arcade Archives released them on Switch and I was instantly enamored.

Dear silly purple cladded skeleton man, Samurai Shodown 2019 is set between V and the original game, it even sets Amakusa up as the main antagonist and gives an excuse for Genjuro not being in SS1 because he was stabbed.

I loved this game so much, and I remember the first time I saw it at the arcade. After getting rocked on King of Fighters, I saw a kid play this across from me. I put in a quarter, chose Haohmaru, and beat him and 6 other kids straight. It was the longest winning streak I'd ever had at that point.

Always nice to see ports brought up, as I feel they're important to the context of a game's popularity of the era.

We covered SamShoRPG on the HG101 podcast and my entire role on that was researching Neo Geo Freak magazine and learning about both the hype cycle and many, many, many delays.

An interview with Yoshiro Kataoka mentions they planned to have all special moves only use command inputs, but thought non-fighting game fans would hate it.

There was a plan to give Earthquake his own story route, but may not have left the concept stage.

So many scheduled release date changes lol
