I understand why Slotkin would think that, but I also think it's turned around because of Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio Cortez's news making rallies. Anyone who's been watching the news since Musk knows what Oligarchy is, but a lot of people, Slotkin is right, don't make the connection.
Could someone tell Bernie (whose positions I generally agree with) the "crotchety old geezer" approach to working with any Dem, who is at least sane, as opposed to Republicans, who for right now are insane, isn't in vogue right now.
I agree with Bernie, BUT: Republicans are the ones to blame, not Democrats. The Democrats may be guilty of not having done enough, BUT the REPUGNICANS have been actively working AGAINST the Middle Class for a generation!!

Bernie is correct about the American people. But I think the one point Elissa Slotkin is correct about is the term "oligarchy". I know I do not have any real visceral reaction when I hear that word. Nevertheless it's meaning, and the importance of the meaning, should get a visceral response.
IMHO Oligarchy is so identified with the oppressive Russian elite it doesn't resonate in the US. Majority of Americans still don't feel in their bones they are being oppressed by a cabal of American elites. Maybe we need a new word. Maybe a mash up of American/aristocracy/plutocracy.
Very difficult. There was a report that said over 50% of Americans read below a high school level. Over 3-5 M people believe that only FOX tells the truth. More that 40% of households don't have time to listen to the news or seek National news. I am not sure the American culture is educated.
Slotkin's my Mom's senator. Mom lives in a tiny town of 4000 in Northern MI that's entirely dependent on tourism for the economy since the toilet paper factory shut down. I fled that town two years ago for being SO maga. They've had regular protests, 50-100 people. Slotkin is mascalculating badly.
Calling out oligarchy is confronting reality. The 1% owning more than the bottom 90% is oligarchy. We need bold leaders like Bernie naming the systemic greed.
