Dragons are cool but dragons with a twist are even cooler. Like, robot dragons. Dragon ghosts. Dragons the size of mice. Invisible dragons. Dragons who hoard flowers and cheese instead of gold and jewels. Dragons from Jersey.

One of my favorite ideas as a longtime dnd player is breathless dragons. Instead of a breath weapon they cloak or shoot spikes. Just more interesting to me than fire or lightning. Telekinesis dragon. Stuff like that

I have a dragon in my homebrew setting that has a perpetual storm above them. Their "breath" is that they call down lightning. When dropped to low health they start dropping lightning that erases what it touches in a bit to survive.

Dragons, but they are messengers of gods. Doing angels' job. They appear out of nowhere, pass the news to witnesses, and skedaddle. Into the nowhere too.

celestial(Asian) gemstone chromatic (European) and metallic
Also more others
Wyverns drakes and dragons are different things from each other though

Different subspecies with different powers
Such as amethyst ruby emerald for gemstone
Red fire dragons blue storm dragons white ice dragons
Gold silver bronze metallic dragons etc
