There were a few extra games in japan on ps1. Of which, one had the original 10 missions, and after beating them it opened up a fuck ton of more. There were something loke 100 missions. I have a Japanese ps2 and all the Tenchu games, lol

That's part of it for sure but I just love the game.
It also has a LOT of room to be better - that Risk System could use some balancing, as well as the loot system - so I think it has such an amazing foundation that a modern version would be SO dope

I was very late to the Mass Effect party myself.
There's a remaster on the legendary Edition and it's absolutely fantastic.
Incredible game way ahead of its time. If you like RPGs I HIGHLY recommend you play that.
