The answer is most of them lose their visa sponsorship. They are assigned a social security number to pay employment taxes, and then the company that employs them wothdraws sponsorship to reduce their rights to negotiate and unionize. Often these people sre trafficked as well.

People without a social security number apply for an individual tax identification number, which they use to pay taxes. Many undocumented people work jobs where they are paid in cash and pay their taxes as a lump sum at the end of the. year. Some use fake SSN's, and I don't know how that works.

§6103(i)(2) requires the Secretary of the Treasury to personally vet each request. Clearly this tool is meant to be used very sparingly and only for special cases. My guess is that part be ignored. People should be jailed for bypassing this step.

I can not read the article. From earlier articles, my understanding is that DHS will submit to the IRS a name and address. IRS would respond to the correct name and address and send it back. This means DHS can send the same name with different addresses and IRS would confirm which was current
