My brother was one of the engineers who built Drax. I didn't feel so good about burning coal but at one time there was nothing else. When it was announced that they were going to start burning wood I was thinking that someone has got to be plain nuts to do that.

I think the government's response to the Drax mess is reasonable given you can't just cut off 4 GW of dispatchable power - massively cut subsidies, reduce running time and tighten rules on wood types. Hopefully we won't need it beyond its current subsidy period with more storage coming on line.

Yes, it's an example of already very wealthy people eyeing up the public purse and contriving ways to help themselves to large chunks of it. I saw a list a few years ago which had over 100,000 examples of this taking place in the UK and the amounts taken.

I've been livid with this corrupt and very wrong funding for years. The only way any small amount of good can come from this criminal debacle would be if all green grant funding which has been wrongly gifted to Drax were recouped/clawed back for actual green spending.
