I admire Kevin enormously. And I'm not here to argue for every NYT story. But this is a bad faith argument. Here's the current homepage lineup on the NYT app:
Trump tax bill
Bonds/Trump tax bill
Putin/Brazil
Trump/South Africa
Trump/deportations
Trump/intelligence rewrite
Cuomo inquiry /1

If there's anyone at the New York Times who wants to actually cover politics, there's apparently an entirely new presidential administration in power now and it sounds like they're doing some crazy shit that might actually matter, unlike whatever the fuck this is?

I'd encourage you to read it, sir. I found it much more useful than anything in the Times because it focused on our most important issue, the threat to democracy created by Trump.

The attempt to jail a member of the opposition party?
Or whether the Dems changed nominees fast enough?
These numbers show that journalists chose the obviously less important story.
And while this choice is inexplicable, it's not surprising.
Trump/local police oversight
Church homeless shelter/pickleball
Houthi strikes/civilian toll
Gaza blockade
Marijuana policy (first to mention Biden)
Saving birds/Chicago
"Food Babe"/Trump era
etc.
That's dozens of reporters and editors, mostly focused on covering the Trump admin. 2/2
“covers Biden and Trump with disproportionate standards, placing false equivalence on issues surrounding the current president to those of the former president, who is facing 91 criminal counts and fantasized about being a dictator on “day one.”
