In 2011 I was supposed to go to Kenya for a HIV/TB research trip. Got canceled when a disc in my spine ruptured. I got Yellow Fever, Tdap, Polio, Typhoid & HepA. Last 3 required 2nd appt for boosters. The only one I'm missing & will be discussing with my PCP in upcoming appt is MMR.

I'd just look up the old vaccine schedules, choose the vaxes you want, and go in and say, "I want X, Y, and Z." And if they say, "Are you sure you need...." just stop them and say, "I want X, Y, and Z. Today, please. Thanks. "

Honestly just ask about travel vaccinations, do some research and pick a couple countries where they have the diseases you’re concerned about and say you’re planning a few trips over the next year or two and want to get it all out of the way.

The only downside to this approach is that it requires you to decide up front what to get vaxxed for, since different countries require different things (once you get past the usual MMR and TDap) but if you "don't know" then you can't ask the clinic what you're missing

Also, if you haven't gotten a TDap recently, then do so. The full TDap, not the simpler thing. The key words here are to say you were "working in the garden" and "got a puncture wound" that "healed over quickly". @\rahaeli.bsky.social has a whole thread about this

Set an appointment and go. There’re COVID vaccines available (booster), flu if you haven’t taken. There’s shingles, pneumonia and RSV as well. Remember, you don’t have to justify why, so no conflict

I asked about the MMR, and my doctor ran a titer test. I was actually missing immunization from one of the three, so I went and got the MMR.

My insurance didn’t want to pay for it, but that’s not quite the same battle. I decided to pay and fight over the bill later.

Which shots are you looking to get? I booked MMR and Polio boosters for the hubs and I through CVS and didn't have any issues. No doctor's note or a reason for getting the shots required. We're in Orlando, FL.

I said I was planning a trip and wanted everything. They asked to where, and I said Boston (3.5 hours South) and we both laughed. You don't have to give a reason though you can just say you want to be up to date. <3
