That was my wake-up call. It was something I'd expect from a spoiled high-school bully, not an intelligent guy trying to help address climate change. It seems I got that part right.
Yes, but things like Hyperloop was long before that. He was properly crazy on a daily basis by the time the Thailand thing happened already. When it was just rockets and cars he had a lot of people fooled, me included.
Clearly there are some smart people at Space X. But even back then I didn't think he was a rocket engineer. Just that he's making cheaper rockets happen. Which was admittedly exciting.
The reason it came to the gross insult is how people knew he was unintelligent. He jumped in not knowing how to build a sub, and assuming logistics weren't needed.
You missed it when others didn't. It's okay. You get it now. Move on.
Hmm. I wonder what role gender and race play into this? As in, if Musk were Black, a woman, or, say, a Black woman, would he have been given so much benefit of the doubt?
(Of fictional Aperture Science fame, not the 19th century politician, although Wikipedia tells me that guy did advocate for constitutional protection of slavery, so maybe he's got some of that too)
I meant the idiot tech founder from Portal 2, who's obsessed with tunnels, does science wrong constantly, gets a lot of people killed, and funds the creation of a psychopathic AI, mostly by mistake.

If he'd staffed SpaceX the way he did X and DOGE, they wouldn't reach orbit.
It's pretty clear a lot of oligarchs are both evil and stupid, but this makes it hard to tell if they are mostly evil or mostly stupid.
I suspect any of his fellow oligarchs who thought DOGE would benefit them guessed Elon was mostly evil.

I ask this sincerely.
