Honestly, I'd settle for just the ability to sort my mail using Perl, because the arcane filter syntax Gmail foists upon users is impossible for me to use without half of my brain screaming "THIS COULD BE A SINGLE REGULAR EXPRESSION, FOR FUCK SAKE!"
I do not know why anyone would trust their email to Google at all. I have never used a Gmail account for anything than junk or Youtube. (and a job that used it)
I would never trust that company with my personal email. I have always used a local ISP that I know and who does not use my email to train AI or sell ads etc. Plus, the app sucks.

I recently spent a couple of weeks eliminating 50k+ unread emails from my Gmail.
Unsubscribing & deleting all the previous messages.
Pro tip: Gmail’s imbedded “Unsubscribe“ option rarely works. Use the on in the email at the bottom - often in tiny or grey text.
Step 1: switch to Proton Mail.
Step 2: Delete everything Google.
Proton has a drive, calendar, password manger, and a VPN.
