I don't think it makes anyone lazy or stupid. The main issue with these tools is the occasional footguns they inject into code, you have to be constantly vigilant. They only help the more senior devs' performance, juniors they slow down.

Definitely not! Less experienced Devs are far less productive with them - more of their PRs fail or spend longer in review. If the dev can do the task by heart they can use AI to speed it up, but if there's any learning element it ends up slower, every time.

No, qualitative and anecdotal at this point. We've been using Copilot since the beta and have been experimenting with what works for us. I'm a manager of coders, not an academic.
I think it would be hard to do a quantitative study, but I'd be very interested in one.
