Same here! How are people finishing books when I can barely finish a text message without getting distracted? Are they wizards or just really good at ignoring notifications?
What’s the last book you tried to read before life distracted you?
It was probably helpful that I was halfway through a book I wanted to finish today, but I’ve also been actively avoiding SM and haven’t left my apartment.
Reading is the best distraction for me. 100% focus, no social media/news when reading. But it might be taking me a few tries today to get into it each time I start reading after doing something else...
I find myself unconsciously burying myself even more deeply into reading and my other hobbies than usual. Right now I’m just trying to self-soothe however I can, which has meant a lot of reading and cross stitch to keep my mind and hands busy.
I've been reading up on attachment theory to fix myself up a bit - and it's allowed me to cope with losing a friend due to a series of misunderstandings quite a bit.
Me trying to write. Finding every excuse not to. I even washed my desk pad. By hand. I have 120,000 words to finish by the end of March and 0 motivation to write even two. 😤 I feel like this guy. Can the world just please STOP.
The new doomscrolling is an audiobook and a dumb little phone game I paid $10 for so I can just play it forever without having to worry about lives or time limits.
Audiobooks with the volume turned up high = my mind not wandering into what is happening tomorrow. It’s going to be really tough on us, but heroes doing the right things loudly in my ear holes will accompany me and my sweeper/dust cloths around the house. I’m also going to rock three crockpots.
I am definitely struggling. I've only finished 2 books for January, and I usually read ~10 books a month. It's difficult to stay focused through all the existential dread.

Even if it's from bubblegum brain books 😂
