follow up, you could do a bargain with the DM to give double inspiration if you also hit 'em with Viscous Mockery, you're not only inspiring them, you're ACTIVELY making them ANGRY so they're more likely to try HARDER.

Choosing when to use the bardic you've been given falls off when it's only the Bard's reaction. It becomes their decision

It also lets the Bard use their reaction for something equally vital:

Shield, Opportunity Attack, Held Action, etc.

I keep extras of the dice type, and hand them out (usually a colour that stands out) so it’s obvious they have the inspiration.

I hand them one of my dice for it, which makes a nice, chunky reminder. Last bard I played, the whole table would hype up about remembering the inspiration when that player would roll something *almost* fine

Gods I played a Bard in the last D&D Game I was in(Kobold Bard with an insult on speed dial when needed), and yeah the fact that Inspirations were often forgotten or wasted, I just often stopped using them. Bonus Actions, especially in combat, were better spent on other things

Oh my go- I just realized. I actually fixed Bardic Inspiration in my Savage Worlds TTRPG setting, and didn't make the connection between that and D&D.

I just naturally thought "The main time you'd pop this is if someone's about to fail" and made it that way. XD

Just treat it as a luck die. If they low roll they can use it before the result is called, and that gives the rest of the party plenty of time to remind them.

I don't play whatever the new version of D&D is but at least for 5e this would take away from a bard using cutting words as a reaction, etc. I don't dislike the idea entirely though, just not sure how to do both.

Bardic inspiration should be an a continous aura you turn on, continously performing a bardic performance and giving you allies who know you bonus so long as they can *hear* or *see* it.

Not that often actually for me *but* the one group I'm in that has a bard also only has three players, bard included, so it's much easier to keep track of.
But I can see this being an issue with bigger groups.
