Important corollary to this for people resistant to it is most ttrpgs aren't 3 books, 1000 pages or £90. If I were so green as to think learning every game were as much of a money/time/effort investment as D&D I'd also feel more comfy bending it into every genre shape than doing something new.

Having fun and playing how the rules intend are two different things; but honestly it's better to find a game that facilitates your play style than it is to force a game with name recognition to poorly run what you actually want
